We end the year with our fall tournament and the event that will decide who has demonstrated the most consistency to be named: The FishUSA "King of The Lake Overall Champion".
2020 was a skipped year due to Covid-19 but if you recall, in 2019, Moby Nick edged out Team Copperhead (the 2018 winners) to win his first Fall KOTL event and denied Captain Lyle a repeat win. Both teams, as well as the majority of the field, ran across Lake Ontario back to back days to fish the fish rich north shores. However, on Day 2 many teams found a different bite there which impacted many teams plans. This year’s Fall KOTL attendance was one of the largest Fall KOTL turnouts to date. Which is both a credit to the salmon fishery that can be found here as well as an organized, festive event which concludes the Lake Ontario team salmon tournaments.
This time of the year, Kings and Cohos can be unpredictable, finicky and aggressive. Some teams get HOT and others NOT! The mighty Kings can be straight out of Port D., at the Weller, the River or across the Lake? Its’ anyone’s guess really and the weather can throw us a curve ball at any time, but we do know one thing that’s not, these freshwater Sharks can be flat out Nasty to us anglers. Gnarly face stagers can destroy tackle and test man and equipment. Sounds fun huh? If you have never tested your fall Shark skills, then this event is for you. This fall Shark fishing stuff can be both addictive and challenging, we must warn you. If you have yet to try this fall event or the fall staging King fishery out of Saint Catharine’s, you need to give it a try in 2020.
Congratulations to Nick and Team Moby Nick

We end the year with our fall tournament and the event that will decide who has demonstrated the most consistency to be named: The FishUSA "King of The Lake Overall Champion".
In 2018, we saw the young guns from Team Copperhead win the main event even though Day 2 was shortened for them due to rough waters. However, the always consistenmt teams from Reel Therapy, Thrillseeker, Fastlane and Vision Quest were close on their heels. One fish coulda made a difference for them but they put two solid days together to edge out Reel Therapy by 1.13 points! Can they do it again in 2019? or will we see some new blood at the winners dance?

The winners of both the fall KOTL and the FishUSA Overall Champion will receive a large novelty cheque and team plaques.

2016 Fall KOTL Summary
This year’s event started with a cancellation on Friday but a very hopeful forecast was predicted for the weekend, so the tournament’s weather committee opted for a Saturday/Sunday tournament. Well, the weatherman was right and the weekend was perfect for this year’s fall event.
Fishing was good up to Friday and many wondered what Friday’s north east winds would do to the stable water. Would it remain unchanged or will it turn the Lake upside down like last year’s fall event? Well, to the benefit of the tourney anglers, it remained stable and many found good fishing.
Saturday’s shotgun start went off without a hitch and teams ran in multiple directions. At the conclusion of a near perfect weather day, it was the Silver Junkies Team who gained top dog day one honors with an impressive 121 pound box. They were followed by Team Underdog (113 pounds), Reel Therapy, Vision Quest and Myles Ahead (about 98 pounds each). Unless Team Silver Junkies flop on day 2, it looked like it was going to be a shoot out for 2nd place!
Like Day one, Sunday’s weather was perfect and the Kings were even more cooperative as only 4 of the competing teams neglected to weigh 5. Many impressive boxes were hoisted onto the scales Friday including the Outtaline box which weighed 120 pounds. They were followed by (3) 115 pound boxes weighed in by Silver Junkies, Thrillseeker and Vision Quest. The Silver Junkies sealed the deal with their 115 pounds and won by an impressive 22 points over second place team; Vision Quest. Was this destiny? The Silver Junkies lost their good friend and co-captain; Pat Comerford this past year and not only won the KOTL main event but captured the renamed Pat Comerford High Performance Division.
Rounding out the top 5 was: Vision Quest, Thrillseeker, Reel Therapy and Mean Machine. Thrillseeker, Silver Junkies and Vision Quest also took the top 3 spots in this year’s FishUSA “King of The Lake” overall championship which consisted of scores from both KOTL events and the Wilson Harbor Invitational.

2015 Fall KOTL Summary
The event kicked off Friday with our traditional Big Fish Friday. The change for this year was to allow teams to weigh “2” salmon in lieu of the past which allowed just “1”. Congratulations to our top 3!!

The weekend’s event “almost” went off without a hitch…. The hitch? Mother Nature ! Fishing was good the days leading up to Friday morning with good catches reported all week. Everyone was able to get out Friday morning but most teams returned to Port before noon on Friday due to strong north east winds and tall seas. How would this sudden and extreme change affect the fall staging Kings???
The lake was calm on Saturday morning after the strong north east wind ended Friday night. However, anglers were greeted with a Lake that was upside down and ice water everywhere… That was evident when teams ran across a thick layer of fog coming off the water at the Canal entrance. One exception was the mouth of the Port D. pier heads where some anglers converged to take some fish that were pushed right in tight.
Fishing was ice cold on Saturday for most teams and 19 of them weighed 1 or less fish. Only 3 teams weighed 5.
Pier head pounding Team Real Deal was our Day one leader with an impressive 93.07 pounds but found out that being in first after day one does not guarantee a win in a two day event. At the brief weigh in, Team Two Fish and Myles Ahead also ended up with good 5 fish boxes.
On day two, the majority of the teams ran directly to the Port D. pier heads to battle it out in the skinny water. Like day one, Mother Nature tossed most teams another curve ball and brought warm waters back and the pier head pounders found a near bite-less morning there and negative fish. However, those willing to run across Lake O and fish the north shore found that their long run was worth it. Team Two fish was one of those rewarded after striking out at the Port D. pier head that morning. His decision to run across the Lake and “get his fish” would allow him to easily win the Fall event. 22 teams would weigh 1 or less on day two. Another brutal day of fishing on the South shore.
Team Carolina and Fastlane were also rewarded for making the home run trek across the Lake to help them secure a second and third place finish in this year’s fall event.
Congratulations to Team Two Fish for winning the Fall KOTL event and making a big comeback to win the Great Lakes Tackle Overall.
